Hey readers and listeners!
There was this recent Semafor article on the power of powerful group chats. The piece by Ben Smith references Erik Torenberg, co-founder of ChatBCC. I know Erik. I like Erik. I share his enthusiasm for group chatting after a decade that’s seen Twitter get a little too public and a lot too noisy. I miss Old Twitter. I desire a product that’s like that, but not larded up with ads and other distractions.
So I’m joining ChatBCC and adding them as my first House of Strauss sponsor. Here’s my channel, click there to skip the waitlist and join the chat.
It’s important to me to have sponsors that I actually like and use. No offense to all my industry friends who advertise with sports gambling companies, but that’s not my preferred route.
Also, I’ve been looking for a better way to interact with my subscribers as I scan for topics to write about. I’m hoping that ChatBCC can be a generative force multiplier for my HoS work. Right now I’m opening with discussion of my friction with the New York Times and Nike, but happy to go into other subjects of intrigue. See you there, folks.
What happens in the group chat stays in the group chat!
a phone number is pretty identifiable information, if that's the only way to sign up for this service then hard pass. I can't imagine it being much more than a message board or discord server. Or this here comment section.
