I mostly avoid writing Warriors on this site, but I’m really intrigued by Bob Myers’ post-GSW adventure. Right before he quit, Myers was, on paper, the most successful active general manager in sports over the last decade. He took over decision-making for a famously bad franchise and turned it into a world-famous premium brand. Over his ten-season span, the Warriors went to six NBA Finals and won four championships. The Kevin Durant teams were, in my (correct) opinion, the greatest assemblage of talent the sport had ever seen. When you consider the franchise’s unforeseen rise, its highest heights achieved, and then its surprise return to glory, Bob’s got an argument for the greatest first decade a GM ever had. And yet, while his reputation is good, it’s not like Myers is regarded as a visionary. Superficially, his voluntary exit should be a bigger deal. The reality that it isn’t might have something to do with why it’s happening.
