2 notes as Ive had someone more in the know reach out to me about two speculations on my part that were incorrect, apparently:
1.) Comms guy Scott Tomlin was not forced out, he chose to go leave for work for Dirk
2.) Luka's "body" team or whatever I called it was formed before the trainer Casey Smith left the team. It was not in response to Smith leaving. Apologies.
Kirk just casually dropping the take in the middle of the podcast that Luka is a top 15 all time player caught me off guard. I feel like Ethan was about to push back, but decided not to go there. If you want to argue Luka has a chance to be top 15 after his career is over I would grant that possibility, but no way is he anywhere near the top 15 right now.
I got a call from the Boston Police in December after I flippantly tweeted “I’m going to k*ll Jayson Tatum” bc I was pissed off about how he constantly got away with the push off move against the Cavs. If they took a random tweet from a guy they were able to track down and would know I’m not even in Massachusetts seriously enough to call, how could they not take more-conceivably-real death threats in Dallas seriously? Leads me to believe someone is lying
I'd be interested in a greater exploration as to how/why Nico Harrison was caught off guard by the backlash. It reminds me of KD's being caught off guard by not being "crowned" after winning with the Warriors. To a lesser extent it also reminds me of Lebron's thinking adding Westbrook and getting rid of Caruso and KCP would be a positive.
I feel genuinely bad for Mavs fans. Just a brutal trade all around. The fact that injury prone Davis was hurt AT THE TIME OF THE TRADE makes it that much worse.
Chatgpt usually does not like to take sides. This one, however, is so clear:
"In summary, while Anthony Davis is undeniably a talented and proven player, many experts believe that trading Luka Dončić—who is still on the rise and central to the Mavericks’ future—is not the best deal for the franchise at this time. The Mavericks might be better off continuing to build around Luka and seeking additional pieces that complement his style rather than replacing him with Davis."
It's the return package that is the worst part:
"In summary, while some trade analyses suggest that a deal for Luka might be structured around 2–3 first-round picks plus additional assets, his true value is much higher. The unique blend of skills and potential he brings makes him nearly irreplaceable, meaning that any realistic trade scenario would likely involve an unprecedented, multi-asset package rather than a straightforward exchange of draft picks."

That was my intention with that note Jonathan. Didn't phrase that well.
I thought that might have been what you meant, but wasn't sure. Thanks for responding!
"Damn, homie, In high school you was the man, homie. The fuck happened to you?" - 50 Kirk
Opened the link before noticing it was a podcast - GD Kirk - what an article!

Great episode fellas

Thanks for the sympathy
Ethan suggested blowing up the team was the option. Why would anyone blow up a team that just made a final and has a 25 year old superstar?
The clear answer is they didn't like him/didn't have faith in him.
Ayy Kirk! Thanks for getting him on Ethan! 🐐
So did the Milton Berle approach fail because they played the Super Bowl just after getting out of the pool?
It may be a bad theory. After all they settled into shotgun and never did anything surprising and got walloped as a result.
2nd year webber for gugliotta was a worse trade
Strong take I respect it
Day 1 listener here. Thanks for keeping it real-PodMFFL.
