This dating topic is interesting to me. My wife and I just got married two months ago and we met on one of the dating apps (met 2/2021, engaged 10/2022). She’s also a PhD in Counseling and a licensed therapist (couples and individuals) in 5+ states so the the topic of dating and relationships comes up a lot for her through her patients and we talk about it a lot.
I would say the dating app experience was negative for me because with most of the women I matched with, there was this clear “wall” put up so it was hard to know anyone, except my wife of course. It was like pulling teeth to try and have a conversation. That was the main thing that separated her from a lot of the other women on there. She put herself out there from the jump and wasn’t afraid to be vulnerable (her first message to me was a selfie saying “hi”).
I would also say that a lot of people don’t do the reflective, internal work to make themselves a better person and by proxy, a better dating option, and this bears out in my wife’s work. There’s no guarantees in anything in life but you wanna give yourself the best shot…
Not gonna lie, I’ve never voted for Trump and never would but I too was actually happy that he won the popular vote.
I’m sure that 50% of the marginal voters can be explained by some combo of inflation, immigration and COVID backlash but for me I was just happy to the see the Dem’s HR act put in its place.
What I find interesting is how many young women claim to identify as “bisexual” or “queer” and yet still obsessively bemoan the current state of young men. If as many people were actually LGBT as they were claiming, surely there’s an obvious solution to their problem?
I can think of quite a few women who were in long term relationships batting from both sides of the plate but I can’t think of a single man who’s done the same.
I think Herzog has also said that women’s sexuality tends to be a lot more fluid than male sexuality- hence why you don’t see as many men interested in “experimenting” haha
ask 100 men if they'll date a bisexual woman and ask 100 women if they'll date a bisexual man. then prepare yourself to learn that women are far more cruel than men.
Being cruel and being sexually fluid are two different things, though. And if “Herzog’s hypothesis” is right, perhaps there’s a reason why women are more wary about this prospect than men, haha
Mencken said there will never be a winner in the battle of the sexes, as there is too much fraternizing with the enemy. But I don’t think he could have anticipated the zoomers would turn it into a cold war.
Kat does have a touch of the transatlantic accent, but I think it just makes her even hotter. Go off, queen.
Started a bit slow but hit a good stride. It was probably long enough already but I wish there had been more time to unpack the notion of nihilistic spectacle that Ethan raised at the end. I've observed the ironic "lol nothing matters" affect online in the face of very real events, but I never tied it to anything before mid- to late-Twitter. That the OJ chase was its inception would be an intriguing debate prompt. Perhaps with Chuck himself. I guess I'll have to get off my duff and read his book.
Here's a thought, what if 9/11 had happened during peak Twitter?
I will say though, it did kinda make me cringe (not in Gen Z saying “cringe” way) to hear Ethan and Kat, both openly in pre app happy marriages, dismiss and advocate for those not as lucky to severely limit their dating options because app culture is “bad” (not debating that it’s suboptimal). Came across as kind of condescending and “just do what I did”
Sorry, I’m so late to this but the discussion on male feminists and their datability made me think of Tony Tulathimutte’s great story “The Feminist” worth reading both for its satire and its exploration of male loneliness. https://www.nplusonemag.com/issue-35/fiction-drama/the-feminist/
YES! She is always great
guys I hate to do this but
why would anyone listen to Matty Yglesias opinions on SEX WITH WOMEN.
like don't make me get rude, but he actually has more valuable things to say on public policy, somehow
Is this a bad time to announce that I've hired Yglesias as resident HoS sex columnist?
What a terrible day to posses eyes

Isn't Nate Duncan 6'6"?
I thought we already established it's Mayes!
Was laughing realizing he was obviously talking about Nate. I love that Ethan brings his friends on the pod, but this is the one downside.

Read Kat's "Cool Men" article (https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/community/articles/birth-of-the-cool-guy) and am convinced Tim Walz is a "cool guy," who made Democrat insiders feel safe, but repulsed everyone else.
Oh man that is such a good observation about Walz. Choosing him just screamed to me low esteem from the Harris camp.
Every father of a daughter is conservative.

Everyone wants to be part of the club. I think it was Herzog who said lesbians are going extinct

Great podcast, Kat should be on more!

Solid set of podcasts lately, enjoyable listens.
Every time the Earth 2.0 topic comes up though all I think about is Portlandia and its song about the dream of the 90s.
Education…very much Earth 2

Who are these former male feminists though? I’ve honestly never met one.
Kat is one of my favorite guests.
