Great conversation, I especially liked the question about whether there's a link between a player's personality off the court and how they played basketball. From a fan's perspective, we do tend to believe that if someone is a smart basketball player that they're also a smart person IRL which isn't always the case.

The one thing that I thought both AI and ET didn't assess correctly was how hard the role of a GM is. Perhaps they were still thinking from a player's perspective, but to say it's a great job because of the pay and first class travel was rather simplistic. Just because you're traveling on a charter for work doesn't make the job better. You're still traveling for work, you're not on vacation. After all, you're still going to places like OK City, Cleveland, Indy or Detroit for work.

Super random, but props to Mays or whoever is producing. I’ve gotten so used to podcasts doing the auto-clipping silence and it’s fine usually. But Andre did a number of long pauses to think through his answers and I really appreciated it. Like, a bunch of the “dumb questions” were pretty tough and it felt a lot more like a real conversation to have those pauses.

Off topic: Ethan missed a big opportunity on these recent gambling stories. He had the correct instincts both realizing a) possible temptation and/or conflicts of interest with the players and gambling, and b) the reluctance of the major media and leagues to take this seriously, because they are profiting off it.

Despite that, Ethan's commentary before the scandals broke were hedged and cautious. He should have gone all-in, sounding the alarm louder and sooner and forecasting these these gambling problems. If he did, he'd look like a genius now -- like he did as the only guy picking the Warriors to win the 'chip in 2015 before the season.

As it stands, he can't claim a full victory. Instead of a straight "told ya so," he's reduced to saying, "Well I kinda said this could happen, or it might not."

Interviews like this are good reminders that professional athletes are actual human beings and not just guys on your fantasy team or someone you bet $200 on to get over 6.5 rebounds vs. the Hornets.
