I assumed I’d written my last post on the whole San Francisco Giants Pride Hat Debacle, but it’s Day 12 and local media is covering this like it’s the Watergate of 9/11s. It’s mass-psychosis, but localized, an entirely Bay Area Media Current Thing. As the rest of the sports world proceeds as per usual, President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey is getting cornered and aggressively interrogated by 30 sports journalists about the absolute scandal of three obscure relief pitchers writing an anodyne Genesis verse on their Pride hats.

While I’m amused by how crazy our local media has gone, and we’ll get into that, I also believe they’re actually onto something in a way. Posey is reduced to repeating that he’ll only address “baseball questions” because he does have something to hide from them. I don’t believe that Posey made a massive mistake, but suspect that he and the Giants acted in ways they cannot confess to. Based on surrounding context, and let’s say, some informed speculation, I have a theory on how this organization wound up in this mess, with Major League Baseball telling the world “the Giants' communication with players was inadequate and not clear.” So what happened and why can’t the San Francisco Giants be open about it?
