Good model to follow, they should teach this in business school like the Conjoined Triangles of Success.

Just switched to a WFH contract role and trying to figure my routine out. This post is very helpful!

Makes a lot of sense.

I'm in content marketing & SEO where "production" goals like these get dinged, but they really do help set a solid rhythm & foundation.

Quantity begets quality.

The hits come from consistency IMO.

I appreciate the consistent output, but your big investigation pieces are still my favorite and I hope you don’t drop those completely

Keep giving us more! Produce, content monkey!

Seriously though, flexible but clearly defined goals are great. My only advice is keep the flexible part in mind as several more years into this journey you’ll likely find some completely different model is necessary.

You’re one of the best in the business and I will always be a subscriber. You have a rare talent.

Intentionality in anything can create brick by brick success.

Just keep hitting singles and doubles man and naturally you’ll hit some home runs without specifically trying...

Interesting. I'd noticed the increased podcast output but figured you were implementing Spike Jones' feedback to you to follow Simmons and have on more friends/regulars.

Great post -- and I’d enjoy reading more posts that have a personal “slant” to them in the future. I’ve also seen in the past few years -- after working in a media/subs biz (on a much smaller scale!) that wired my brain similarly -- that structure does = freedom. Just wish I had realized that sooner. Keep up the top notch work, Straussie!

I appreciate the additional podcasts. Obviously you are a great writer, but podcasting may be turning into your strength.

Not going for home runs is really important. Im an academic, and it’s publish or perish so I know the feeling. But one thing I’ve found is that once in a while one of those singles or doubles turns into a home run unexpectedly. But that never happens when I feel like I’m chasing the million dollar idea.

Great article and thanks for sharing what has worked for you on Substack. If you haven't read the book Atomic Habits yet, I highly recommend! You actually talk about some of what is taught in the book in this article.

At first I was thinking you were going HAM in March 2023 because that's the 1 year anniversary when you had a huge wave of new subscribers (like me!) after having done successful guest appearances on the wildly successful podcasts of Bill Simmons and Colin Cowherd. So for those of us subscribers who signed up for a year, you make your best months in prior years your best months in the coming years. But, happy to see that your best months now will always be next month ;-)

Good interview with Hamish, Ethan.

However, I am going to die on my own Moral Tourette's hill that the media borg was mostly right about Kyrie and the vaccine.

2022 data on SARS2 in prisons - shows that transmission risk is substantially lower vaccinated than unvaccinated. Not in a huge way, but ~31% less transmission for those vaccinated + boosted (and 22% less for 2-dose basic vaccination).

This was published in a preliminary way in Sept '22 and in a prestigious journal in Jan '23.

I'm glad this site is growing and I'm glad of your increased output. Thanks for doing such high quality work and it was a pleasure to meet you BARPOD/House of Strauss party in SF. I stand by thinking you're important to read and hope more and more people discover the great work you are doing!

Makes sense. And 1,500 words per is about what this customer is interested in!!

I’ve loved the new model because you’re the best sports writer in America and an incredibly underrated podcaster which means we get both routinely and weekly with certainty. Great product, great article, great method, great template, generational talent.
