1. SNL needs Gillis more than Gillis needs SNL, and the people running SNL begrudgingly know this (I have no horse in the race, neither one is my cup of tea). SNL acknowledging this reality angers people who wish it was one way, but it’s another.

2. The hyperbolic language to get views, people riled up, etc, with little regard for honesty, is just a long standing business model. It’s no different than yellow journalism, tabloid journalism, or any of that sepia colored historical slop. The only difference is that it’s consumers now have a college degree, and mistakenly believe themselves to be sophisticated.

3. There are women walking around in ass-girdles just as, if not more, absurd than the 14 inch Victorian corsets. If you cannot laugh at the absurdity of this, you have lost in life.

I feel like everyone is getting exactly what they wanted out of Shane GIllis' appearance! The culture war is FUN.

I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, but completely quitting social media has been amazing for my mental health. I miss some of the nba comedy accounts and probably miss out on some interesting stuff, but the juice is just not worth the squeeze. People getting mad about this stuff are just getting worked by ML algorithms designed to make them angry.

Shane Gillis is hilarious BTW. I have not had a single conversation with a friend about anything on SNL since Will Farrell was on the show but I’ve had multiple friends independently talk to me about the Shane Gillis standup on YouTube or Tires (sadly perhaps I need to include the disclaimer that none of us voted for Trump lol).

That said I will probably have a few beers next week and feel a hankering for some humorous nba clips and be back on X and in the rage cycle hahahahaha

There's a relatively small subset of people, who are unhappy and mentally ill, who see something that could possibly be construed as offensive by other sad, mentally ill people, and they think, "Oh, hell yeah!" and then run to their computers, or phones. The mistake the rest of us make is paying attention to them.

Slightly off topic, but I wish there were gyms just for TikTok-addled women who want to spend 45 minutes camping out on the assisted squat rack doing hip thrusts in between staring at their phones. I will not miss them or their skimpy attire taking up space in the gym I go to.

the most ridiculous part of this is the accollades dan levy gets for writing a facebook post. "he's the only man standing up for women!"

ladies ... he's a nepo baby who had a hit show (that I bet his dad mostly wrote) ... but there isnt much demand for flamboyantly gay actors so his career is in the toilet. he definitely doesn't care at all about snl, shane gillis, or "misogynistic" jokes. it's the same reason he wears some ridiculous costume at the Met Gala every year - he's desperate for attention and work.

Most cultural controversies are dominated by people with no sense of humor. So it’s only natural.

Just feels like, with an election coming up that seems like it will go very well for the left/Democrats, the same people are coming out of the woodwork doing their outrage thing again and don't fear any ramifications. You've said "Woke," or what I'd call just oversensitivity and willful, purposeful stupidity, is on the decline; I think it's never left. And actually trending back up!

The Hollywood Reporter who thins SNL is not a place for jokes about women forgets "Jane, you ignorant slut." Now imagine the reaction today if Gillis had dropped classic. No wonder Hollywood stopped making adult comedies.

I didnt see the set until after … and knew nothing about the outrage until i saw Levy’s post in my news feed. This isnt a story b/c no one is talking about this not on the internet.

Funny how his joke about gay/hitler is correct in this viral nothing story

> But we’ve now reached a point where you can caption a video with a misleading headline, and the overwhelming response will be driven by the wrong framing of a video everyone can see for themselves. We’ve gone from, “Nobody will bother to read the original book,” to “Nobody will bother to read the original article,” and now are squarely in, “Nobody will even bother to watch the short video clip staring them right in the face.”

This is so true on Reddit too. Any video that someone posts to like /r/nba the whole comments section is just people reacting to the title with something snarky or defensive, misconstruing what the video is even about.

Weirdly, YouTube comments sections are actually somewhat decent in comparison. (That might be the first time anyone has ever said that sentence).

Comedy is going to go the way of foie gras in California.

The disgust reaction from the left is so mind twisting because it reminds me so much of the disgust reaction (to raunchy gay stuff for example) that often came from the right. The fact that we now have that kind of disgust reaction on all sides of the culture is probably a bad thing.
