My heart is partially with Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon as she gets re-pilloried over her dismissive 2023 comments about New York Knicks prospects with Jalen Brunson. I have take-sympathy because, as a former ESPN NBA writer, my words were always used to embarrass me following faulty predictions. At the same time, as I witness some people rushing to her defense…I don’t see how her commentary made a lot of sense, even back then? Indeed, I see Hammon’s old Brunson assessment as less a sharp take and more the sort of fallacy that leads analysts astray across sports.
