Following a local news organization’s deep dive into tweets newly hired Portland Trail Blazers TV play-by-play broadcaster Braiden Bell made as a teenager, he’s been let go by the organization. Bell is 29 years old. He was fired roughly 8 hours after he was officially hired on October 1st.
The offending tweets date back to when he was about 15. The bizarre cancellation has inspired a few to sarcastically quote “Woke 1 was crazy,” to indicate that we’re not past such cultural insanity.
This “story” should not exist, almost by the admission of local Portland news outlet KGW, who is otherwise treating this like a journalistic triumph of the highest order:
KGW's review did not locate any offensive tweets from Bell after he became an adult. In fact, by the latter half of 2015, Bell's public tweets were almost entirely about sports.
So, what are we doing here? By the review of the outfit attempting to destroy him, when Braiden Bell became an adult, he cleaned up his act and started behaving with proper public decorum. Don’t we want teenagers to correct their ways and improve? If that’s the case, then why is this cause for destruction? I have to say, I find KGW’s “report” to be morally worse than the former minor’s tweets.
