So what happens next?

Here’s a Mailbag question from reader George H. that I wanted to address in full:

How will the Boomer era end? Asteroid hitting earth, extreme chaos caused by numerous conspiracy theories colliding, more college football realignment, etc? I’ll hang up and listen.

This is a subject I can’t stop thinking about, in part because I don’t have the answers. If I were working on a book, which I don’t plan to be, it would be titled, “Economy By Boomer.” Ever since Salesforce tycoon Marc Benioff told me that he let the Warriors build their billion-dollar arena on his plot of San Francisco land because, and I quote, “Now I don’t have to schlep all the way down to San Jose to see Elton John,” I’ve pondered just how much power, susceptible to caprice, is in the hands of a small group of older people. In theory, it can’t go on forever. So what happens next? That exact question was on my mind as I watched the Disney vs. Charter standoff wrap up.
