Christian Dawkins/HBO

The potential top pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and the potential top pick in the 2023 NBA Draft have something in common, beyond the obvious: The guy whose agency they signed up with happens to be in a Montgomery, Alabama prison.

This man is also the protagonist of an HBO documentary that detailed how he got there. His agency’s notoriety is rising. Its roster is gaining. Industry insiders debate the extent to which its locked-up superstar talent scout charts a course from confinement. It’s not hidden that he’s imprisoned, but a few NBA-world people I spoke to were shocked to discover he’s there. They figured he was out already, because they’d been given his email when asking questions about his burgeoning business.

Is he running the show? His colleagues say no. But they can’t wait to level up when he’s released. If you thought Klutch was the pirate ship of the NBA agency world, wait till you hear about Par-Lay Sports & Entertainment.
