Swango with the swag-o nickname.

I feel like there's a joke to be made here about people who podcast in glass houses... Shouldn't throw hot takes? Help needed

My vague assumption through the years:

Simmons and Sal "place bets together" as a duo because they were betting illegally especially in the early days. Throughout the years, there's always an additional layer of abstraction for plausible deniability...

"we" won that Pats bet, Jimmy went in on that parlay... Etc. They talked about the big Romo losses more than the wins. Also there was whatever Million Dollar Picks was. Does anyone really think Bill stopped betting everything NBA just because he also voted for MVP? I don't.

* Is the media's refusal to interview certain candidates a death knell or the biggest flex ever?

* Caleb Williams has a ceiling of Russell Wilson and a basement of Rex Grossman

I didn’t think about this until now but Simba probably doesn’t want to admit on his podcast that he made an extra 6 figures of income and didn’t file a W-2 G.

I don’t think Bill claims to not bet on anything NBA, just not on MVP etc. There’s nothing stopping him from betting win totals.

Love the combo and the chemistry, per usual. Got a few nitpicks. Glass missed the best part of the Bill/Chuck gambling talk. Chuck laying out “all” the similarities between Bill & Pete Rose and pressing him on whether he relates. And the Bears open with the Ravens and Bengals, not exactly some frauds to inflate their record.

Agreed, the hot part was asking Bill about his own similarities to Rose.

You looked at the Bears schedule incorrectly, their first 2 games are Titans week 1 then Texans in week 2. They dont play anyone from the AFC North this year. I still dont think his point made a ton of sense, it is always very difficult to assume strength of schedule in the NFL because there is so much parity and roster turnover each year. It is possible their division games are not that tough, the Lions could regress, the Packers could be overrated, and the Vikings might just suck.

As a west coast resident who watches a lot of college football, I am also a Caleb Williams doubter. He played a lot of bad defenses in the Pac 12 last year and didn’t look like a world beater. And look, it’s one thing to paint FUCK UTAH on your nails and beat them with swagger, but it’s another thing to lose to them twice in one year when you do it.

Klosterman guesting is one of few things that gets me to tune into a Simmons podcast these days. The way he pushes back on him is great, and they have a really good rapport for going off on tangents. The topic selection (“actually John Thompson didn’t do too bad a job picking the 1988 Olympic team”) is catnip for men of a certain age.

Strong agree with Ethan on his self critique about the sports talk shows. I love sports. Really do. And even if I could watch TV during the day, I could list many thousands of things I'd rather do than watch one of these shows.

I agree, those shows are abject garbage and I cant believe Ethan and Ryan like them. Same goes for Ryan's interest in WWE, I just dont understand the appeal.

On a somewhat related note to their the Simmons/Klosterman discussion of the "Crown Jewel" franchises, I was thinking that any list of the "best" sports owners right now (dependent on how one decides "best," but I think according to most objective criteria), James Dolan would (sadly) have to be near the top of the list.

Obviously, he is operating at an advantage owning two teams in the largest market in the country. But, both the Knicks and Rangers sell out every night, and are very competitive. MSG is by far the oldest arena in the NBA and NHL, yet is continues to be the ultimate arena. Unlike almost every other team, they face local competition, but Dolan's teams are easily the main teams in NYC. Add in thinks like the Billy Joel residency which just wound down after 10+ years, and Dolan opening the Sphere, one of the coolest structures to be built in the US in recent memory, and it's hard to think of anyone doing better.

And he's apparently a paranoid jerk.

@45:57 I’m intrigued that you dislike McAfee(who I think is just a dude’s dude and is nice on the show) but you and other cats in the media that I respect really love Nick Wright and his show. If anything he’s the worst element of that cast and I find it odd seeing yall support a cat who made it off being an extreme dickrider and hater. And not even a dickrider like Shannon Sharpe, who’s at least in the HOF and is hilarious lol

The Imane Khelif case for competing against women was easier to make when she was losing. If she wins the next 6 golds in a row, never being remotely threatened, I wonder if people will reassess their opinion or just say "she's just the best woman, deal with it!".

The Klosterman gambling interrogation was amazing, and I can't help but wonder what ended up on the cutting room floor. It also highlights how Bill gambles non stop even while living in LA/CA, sometimes he remembers to say "I was back East so I placed some bets" and sometimes he just says fuck it and talks about all the bets he made while in LA. It's hilarious and kind of endearing. Does Draftkings give him some sort of pass/secondary address, or does he use a Bovada account?

Danny Parkins is very different from Nick Wright! Danny thinks Jordan isn't even a top 10 player all time, and in today's game would be Cam Reddish. So I think he can separate himself from Nick very easily as a takesman.

Honestly not sure what to make of the Polymarket action so far. I’ve read that PredictIt caps bets while Polymarket does not, but the latter also launders betas thro crypto so that raises the barrier to entry for some.

It’s gonna be close. I’ll say this: I find a lot of the enthusiasm (“joy”) for Harris to feel very artificial, mostly coming from people who would crawl across broken glass to vote against Trump anyways.
