Is Jason Timpf the guy who worked at Verizon for a period of time before jumping into media? I think he is and this explains why he is one of the few to recognize that the NBA is incentivized to be increasing the number of games offered instead of doing the insane ideas of just cutting 20-30% of inventory on a whim and thinking that could lead to longer term growth/health of the league. He's preaching to me by saying that yes, there will be some increased intensity of games but this wouldn't outweigh the drop in inventory. He's just talking about elasticity of demand here and I'm glad he's pointed that out with more common terms.
I am going to be a broken record here but stop calling this new NBA TV rights deal a huge win. Yes, it went from ~$24B to ~$74B in total value so you _could say_ it was a tripling. But that is fucking asinine. The previous deal was over 9 years and not 11 years like the current one. There also was a period of massive inflation in recent years that pushes upward pressure on all prices (hint: NBA TV contracts are prices) regardless of the health of a product. I mean, did eggs all of the sudden become 200% more productive recently? Probably not!
Great pod. Jason is one of my favorite of your guests. I had never heard of him until the first time you had him on and now I watch some of his YouTube content.
Liked Jason contextualizing basketball play but I think his view of the nba and nba media sounds out of touch. Probably necessary for someone as entrenched.
haven't thought of Harper in years!! (checks twitter) looks like he's doing the same thing he was doing in 2016. i don't see anything similar between Jason and Zach. Jason is stratospheres beyond Harper

LOVED this guest and discussion of nuanced team dynamics.

this was my intro to jason, too. don't have the time so i use jason's yt to catch up when it's needed, quickly
Great pod about nba media and sports psychology
Any guesses who the fighting friends are? I think it’s Saagar vs Nate silver.
Not sure if Saagar and Ethan are friends. I would guess the guy complaining to Ethan about another friend is Nate Duncan.
Duncan, all due respect to him, seems like the kind of guy who thinks he is never wrong, so he is probably a good bet to be one side of it
What is their disagreement about?
It's always funny to me that the NBA is the one sport where effort is not a given.
Liked Jason contextualizing basketball play but I think his view of the nba and nba media sounds out of touch. Probably necessary for someone as entrenched.
the music and athletes of our teenage --> adult years will always be that generations favorite. this has always been the case
you can bet your bottom dollar millennials with curry will sound like those old football heads with jim brown as they age
I too have had the experience of my son asking him to take a video of him doing something and him saying, “Hit Like and Subscribe” at the end.
Otherwise it’s interesting how YouTube has effectively become channel surfing pre-DVR. Or at least Thats how I use it.
For a second, I thought I was listening to an episode of True Hoop.
Basketball is more enjoyable for me because of YouTube creators like Timpf
jason sounds like if zach harper had a brain implant that removed all the irony and made him hyperfocus on loving basketball (compliment)
