Re: Purdy. He's not the best QB in the NFL but he's good. But saying that is boring TV. I've been watching the Niners for a long time and seeing the team when Purdy became QB reminded me of how I felt when Kaepernick replaced Alex Smith. It was just nice to see someone through the ball down the field!!!!! I couldn't deal with another 3-yard out on 3rd and 8. Anyone who watches the Niners every week knows that Purdy is good (not perfect, but good!) and your boy's take that the Niners would have moved on if they lost the NFC championship game is almost as insane as Bill Simmons wondering if they should move on from Shanahan.
Ethan, I'm high on all things Guy. The man catches your long, deflected passes, then runs with the rock like his job depends on it. Anyway, I'm gonna need more.
Watching the GSW-Sixers game with the Niners in attendance, you notice Draymond is bigger than everyone except for Trent.
Harkening back to "people relate to curry bc anyone can shoot 3's in the backyard", perhaps part of the NFL appeal is that average size people can imagine themselves as receivers, running backs, defensive backs.
Interesting take! I think there's a few other things at play
1) I literally couldn't name half of the niners on the sidelines. Who was the guy in the sweet green tracksuit lol? There's a level of anonymity granted by the 55-man rosters and the helmets/visors. Everyone recognizes the four or five best Warriors players, wherever they go.
2) People connect with the mentality of football players which is give it all you've got, every game, every snap - as opposed to the 'tweaked my ankle in warmups, gonna miss a week of games' or 'i'd prefer not to play against jokic in denver' attitude we are seeing a lot of in the NBA
Not offended by the Cleveland talk about winter, from Ohio and winter is brutal though to be fair it does toughen you up, builds character (though with accompanying alcoholism) vs California weather which softens you up (live in SoCal now). Both places have a Tilted Kilt though!
Nerdy soccer fans? Soccer is the one sport where stats are, almost ,completely useless. At least to anyone who actually plays/understand at a high level
At least baseball's own stat nerds ruined the popularity of the sport. The historically African American sport of basketball, our best and FAVORITE game was infiltrated by the nerdy soccer fans who wanted to get freaky in the NBA sheets with unlimited scoring and zero defensive resistance and then go back to one nil missionary with their respectable wife.
I just looked up the average Premium League score. It's 2-1. What if progressively over time it was 6-5. Would the same people all of a sudden understand that this was a negative development? Of course they would. They CARE about what's good for soccer.

I like Guy. Enjoyable podcast. Me personally, I like football about the same as I used to, baseball a little less and basketball a lot less.

This is the only podcast I can imagine going from a 20min Purdy breakdown to a discussion of AI porn.

I'll say this again:

Love this take

The NBA scoring avg by decade:
60s: 115.0
70s: 108.3
80s: 109.3
90s: 101.3
00s: 96.9
10s: 102.2
20s: 112.8
The game changes from era-to-era. I'm sure we will be complaining about not-enough-scoring soon enough.
