It’s the middle of 2023 and I haven’t written about the Warriors since 2021. Had a few podcast conversations to be sure, but, ever since launching this site, mostly sought to avoid the subject I was 99 percent associated with for anyone who’d ever heard of me. So I’m not trying to draft off these guys, at least not any longer, but they’re a hard topic to avoid. The Warriors are especially difficult to avoid when they dovetail with NBA commissioner Adam Silver’s decision-making, which is, perhaps, the actual leitmotif of the site. On Tuesday, Silver acted in the general direction I’ve advocated for years: Non indulgent, with authority, in favor of professionalism. And yet, I find the decision to still be illustrative of how he gets it so, so wrong. Let’s get into that.
