Hi everybody, I’m doing a regular Friday show with help from 2Way, where I can respond to your questions in person. Really excited about this, as it’s an opportunity to take what we do here, and add a production + audience component. Would really appreciate if a lot of you subscribed, signed up for the Zoom and showed up May 23rd, 4 pm EST/1 pm PST. See you tomorrow!
Okay, I’m not ending the email quite right there, I just wanted to get the main information out first. If you’re asking why I’m doing this show, a lot of it is because Mark Halperin’s 2Way opened my eyes to what’s possible in this medium. His YouTube podcast was the only place where I’d routinely see a wide range of people discuss the 2024 election from differing perspectives in a cordial manner. It was like Mark’s show opened up a portal into an America that wasn’t reflected in media outlets, yet suddenly felt more capacious than the sum total of political opinion transmitted at those other places.
2Way was a reminder that people are indeed individuals, their political views are often idiosyncratic, and a great many of our fellow Americans can’t be reduced to some stigmatized summation. Beyond that reminder, the show offered this tremendous exploration of grey areas left untouched by the great mass of media outlets whose leanings were either formally or informally partisan.
That’s politics, but I see a similar opportunity in the sports culture space. There’s a dearth of honesty on certain taboo subjects in legacy sports media, and the push back on those taboos mostly comes from outlets that are right-aligned partisan. I’m not saying that all these media entities are bad, or wrong all the time. I’m just saying that I want to have a different conversation. I’m also saying I’d like to have it with you.
Oh, and as for the name, Andre Iguodala used to tell us Warriors beat reporters that the hardest offense to stop was “random offense.” I’m hoping that the show’s necessary chaos element, brought by you, makes it unstoppable.
So, again. My YouTube channel. My Zoom link for the show where you can sign up and ask questions. May 23rd, 4 pm ET, 1 pm PST. See you there.
I loved the episode. Mike Pesca is really, really entertaining and smart, great follow up to the recent live. Bomani as always is the perpetual one trick pony bathing himself in victimhood and dogma. The greatest Bomani irony is that all the discussion of how the left was historically pummeled following the whole Biden kakistocracy yet he’s the ultimate microcosm of 2020 stale views he still espouses after they’ve been proven demonstrably caustic and vehemently rejected by common sense. He’d benefit from embracing some of the exact polarity of America first that he reviles so much, all that education he celebrates and boasts of but zero pragmatism, interesting stuff.
Will Random Offense also be uploaded to the HoS feed as a podcast? I usually rather use my podcast app over YouTube so hopeful it makes my feed as a longtime sub!
